Pedigree-Viewer
Pedigree-Viewer is a work in progress that aims to be two main things:
- An out-of-the-box personal genealogy website
- A library of tools for people making their own genealogy websites.
Pedigree-Viewer gives you and your website visitors various ways to view your pedigree information. It reads a Gedcom file and generates these pages on the fly. To update your site you simply replace the Gedcom file.

Out-Of-The-Box Genealogy Website
Pedigree-Viewer should be usable the genealogist who knows how to unzip and upload files to his or her website, but who doesn't want to do any programming.
For these users, they should be able to download Pedigree-Viewer, unzip it, add their Gedcom file and upload it to a webserver. Boom. Instant website.
A Library of Genealogy Tools
Every genealogist shouldn't need to be a programmer, but some of us are. Those of us who are shouldn't need to re-write every tool we need. Good programming practices will make it easy to re-use as much or as little of Pedigree-Viewer as a programmer may want.
Pedigree-Viewer is under an Open Source license which means you can get at the source code easily and that we will happily include quality code contributions in the project so that more people can benefit.
Modern Web Programming, Modern Browser Experience
Many of the genealogy website creation tools are getting a little long in the tooth. Pedigree-Viewer uses HTML5, CSS3 and convenient web programming tools such as jQuery, Leaflet and DataTables.
Back-end functionality is written in PHP 5.3, which is supported by most low-cost web hosting companies which makes the barrier to having your own genealogy website very low.
Search Engine Friendly Genealogy Website
Puting your genealogy website online isn't much use if people can't find it. Pedigree-Viewer has a goal of being search-engine friendly so that search engines like Google and Bing and index it and send other genealogists to your site.
